In a video statement, Ambala MP Varun Chaudhry questioned the govt’s track record and anti-drug measures in the state

Ambala: Congress MP from Ambala, Varun Chaudhry, on Thursday criticised Union home minister Amit Shah’s announcement setting Dec 31, 2029, as the deadline to make Punjab drug-free, questioning why no similar target has been declared for neighbouring Haryana.Chaudhry’s remarks followed Shah’s address in Jalandhar on Wednesday at the conclusion of the BJP’s Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra, where the 2029 timeline was announced.Pointing out that the BJP has been at the helm in Haryana for nearly 12 years, Chaudhry questioned the govt’s track record and anti-drug measures in the state. In a video statement, Chaudhry said, “BJP’s double engine govt has been ruling Punjab’s neighbouring state Haryana for the last 12 years. Till date, Haryana has not become drug-free. There is no deadline for Haryana when it will be made chitta free.”The Congress MP also questioned the political motive behind fixing Dec 31, 2029, as the deadline, asking whether the date was selected keeping the next Lok Sabha elections in mind.
