Mandya: Srirangapatna Congress MLA AB Ramesh Bandisiddegowda on Sunday issued a formal apology following controversy over his recent remarks about Nirmalanandanatha Swami, head of Adichunchanagiri Mutt.Speaking at a programme here, the MLA expressed dissatisfaction in the presence of the seer. He stated that the religious leader should follow the legacy of the late seer Balagangadharanatha Swami by taking everyone into confidence, maintaining emotional unity, and leading the institution without discrimination between rich and poor.After the remarks triggered widespread debate, the MLA spoke to reporters in Mandya to clarify his position. He said his statements often become controversial irrespective of his intention, but insisted that he never meant to suggest that the Mutt was functioning poorly. Instead, he explained that his comments were intended as a request for the present seer to continue the inclusive legacy established by the late seer, so that the institution continued to flourish.He further said he does not consider himself significant enough to criticise Nirmalanandanatha Swami and described the issue as a minor slip of the tongue during his speech. Acknowledging that members of Vokkaliga Sangha and others took offence, he expressed regret for any hurt caused. He also praised the efforts of the seer in expanding the influence of the Mutt globally and reiterated his support for the initiatives.He urged the public to put the controversy to rest, stating that his intention was only to see the Mutt serve more people. Describing himself as a devoted follower of the mutt, he appealed that his words not be misunderstood and added that senior members associated with the mutt will soon visit him, when further discussions would take place.
