Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Congress Thursday held two meetings to discuss organisational expansion, preparations for the coming municipal corporation elections and key civic issues affecting the city.Party leaders resolved to strengthen the organisation at the booth level and intensify public outreach in their respective areas. Workers were asked to focus on local issues and take the party’s policies to households ahead of the MC polls.The second meeting, held ahead of Friday’s MC house session, focused on issues to be raised by Congress councillors and the party’s strategy in the House. Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari joined the meeting virtually and shared suggestions.The party also decided to strongly press for 20,000 litres of free water for every household, describing it as a matter of public necessity rather than politics.Pre-election boost for AAPThe New Congress Party (NCP) Thursday merged with AAP. The induction of NCP leaders and supporters was led by AAP Chandigarh in-charge and MLA Jarnail Singh.AAP said the move would strengthen its organisation ahead of the MC elections, adding that the inclusion of youth leaders and grassroots workers would bolster its campaign for “positive change” in Chandigarh.
