Ranchi: State president of the Congress SC cell, Prashant Kishore, on Friday lodged a complaint at Kotwali police station seeking registration of an FIR against those allegedly involved in the “purification” of the venue where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a public meeting in Haldwani, Uttarakhand.Kishore said Kharge’s meeting was held on Aug 8 and that the venue was later allegedly purified using Ganga water and a havan performed. He claimed newspaper reports and video footage suggested that members associated with the Shri Ram Sena Dharamarth Sewa Nyas were involved in the ritual. In his complaint, Kishore said purifying a public place on the basis of a person’s caste was not only an insult to an individual but also a serious affront to the dignity of SC and the Constitution.Referring to Kharge as a prominent SC leader, Kishore said the Haldwani incident had caused resentment and anguish among members of the community in Jharkhand. He urged the police to take action against any activity promoting caste discrimination, untouchability or social exclusion, saying such acts violated constitutional values and warranted immediate intervention. The complaint sought identification of the organisers, examination of available video footage and prompt action under relevant provisions of law.
