Chandigarh: The Congress MLA from Phagwara, Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, on Monday expressed concern over the heaps of wheat lying in Punjab’s mandis and the delay in procurement.He said due to the non-procurement of wheat, farmers in Punjab were distressed. “On the auspicious occasion of Baisakhi, which is traditionally a time for harvest and celebration, a large quantity of farmers’ produce remains unsold,” Dhaliwal said in a written statement.The Congress legislator also criticised the govt over “the shortage of gunny bags” and said timely arrangements should have been made.Dhaliwal urged the Punjab govt to ensure immediate and uninterrupted procurement of wheat.
