Jodhpur: A Congress booth agent’s reliever allegedly died by suicide after returning home from a polling booth in Falna’s Ward 21 Friday morning, prompting protests and a road blockade by locals who alleged he had been threatened.Dinesh, who was serving as reliever for the booth agent of Congress candidate Ravi at a PM Shri School polling centre, left the booth around 11am and returned home, where he allegedly died by hanging.Falna SHO Panna Ram said police received information around 12.30pm and reached the spot. “We are awaiting a formal complaint/FIR from Dinesh’s family. Further action will be taken after the family submits its complaint,” he said.The incident triggered tension in the area, with locals reportedly blocking a road in protest. Congress workers and Dinesh’s family members also staged a dharna at the hospital, refusing to accept the body and demanding action.The Congress alleged Dinesh had been threatened and harassed at the polling booth and claimed he took the extreme step after being distressed by the threats. The allegations have not been independently established.The body was kept in the hospital morgue, police said.State Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra said, “Dinesh’s suicide is extremely serious. His family has alleged that he was threatened and harassed inside the booth, forcing him to take the extreme step. There must be a fair inquiry and strict action against those responsible. Using threats to win an election cannot be tolerated. My condolences to Dinesh’s family. Congress will fight to ensure justice for them.”
