Jhunjhunu: Tension gripped Bamanwas village in Jhunjhunu district after retired soldier Udayveer Singh was murdered with a sharp-edged weapon Sunday night. The accused, Akram, was nabbed by a police team near Jaipur railway station Monday evening, ASP Devendra Singh said.BJP leader Santosh Ahlawat, former MLA Subhash Pooniya, along with hundreds of people, blocked the nearby national highway Monday morning to demand arrest of the accused, compensation of Rs 1 crore, a govt job for the deceased’s dependants, and action against the accused’s allegedly illegal property.Police said that in view of communal tension in the village and local villagers’ demands, the administration demolished the allegedly illegal encroachment by the accused on johad (pond) land using a bulldozer under heavy police deployment. After assurances from the administration, villagers called off the protest late in the evening. Police said they were interrogating the accused and further investigation was underway. According to information, Singh was sitting at a shop in the village when an altercation broke out between him and Akram, a resident of the same village. Akram allegedly attacked Singh with a sharp-edged weapon. Locals rushed Singh to a private hospital in Chirawa, from where he was referred to Jaipur. He died on the way.Police from Surajgarh, Pilani, and Chirawa stations reached Chirawa govt hospital where the body was brought and kept. ASP Devendra Singh Rajawat inspected the crime scene. Due to communal tension in the village, police conducted a flag march and deployed a heavy force, officers said.
