New Delhi: With heavy pedestrian movement and a constant stream of autos, e-rickshaws and Gramin Seva vehicles choking roads around Chhattarpur Metro station, Delhi Traffic Police has stepped up measures to ease congestion at CDR Chowk and Mandir Wali Road in Mehrauli.DCP (Traffic), Southern Range, inspected the stretch recently and interacted with drivers of public transport vehicles. The inspection found that commuters use the various modes of public transport to travel to and from Chhattarpur metro station, putting pressure on the already congested stretch, particularly during peak hours. Officials also flagged haphazard stopping and parking of autos and e-rickshaws as a major cause of congestion. To bring some order to the situation, a committee comprising representatives of auto- and e-rickshaw drivers has now been formed. The committee will coordinate with drivers and ensure that vehicles are parked strictly in a single line, without blocking the carriageway or pedestrian movement.Traffic Inspector, Mehrauli, and personnel deployed in the area have also been directed to keep a watch on the stretch and take strict enforcement action against vehicles violating parking and traffic norms.
