Bengaluru: The much-awaited statutory inspection of the elevated section of Namma Metro’s Pink Line from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere began Tuesday. V Venkatasubramanian, commissioner of Metro railway safety (CMRS), southern circle, Bengaluru, along with his team, commenced the three-day safety inspection of the 7.5km elevated section covering six stations.On the first day of inspection, CMRS conducted a motor trolley inspection of the main line. BMRCL MD Jaffer PC and other senior officials were present. “The CMRS inspection is a statutory step towards obtaining authorisation for opening this section for public service,” stated a press release from BMRCL.BMRCL had earlier set multiple deadlines to open the line, but missed them because of various factors. The corporation is now planning to open the section by Oct-end after obtaining the necessary clearance from CMRS. A senior CMRS official said, “All critical systems, including track, signalling, rolling stock, electrical systems, passenger amenities, emergency systems and others, are being inspected. The line will be opened for public use only after receiving authorisation from CMRS.”BMRCL plans to operate six trainsets on the elevated section, at a frequency of six minutes during peak hours and 10 minutes during non-peak ones. The Pink Line is 21km long. Because of pending works, the underground section from Dairy Circle to Nagawara is expected to open only in early 2027.
