Hazaribag: Hundreds of girl students of GM College in Hazaribag’s Ichak on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to police, alleging harassment by groups of young men, particularly bikers, while travelling to and from the institute. The students approached Ichak police station and handed over the complaint to officer in-charge Gautam Singh. They alleged that some youths routinely passed lewd remarks and behaved objectionably near schools and colleges during opening and closing hours. The students said the harassment had created fear and insecurity, making it difficult for them to commute to classes. They warned that they would approach Hazaribag SP Aman Kumar if the situation did not improve.Several schools and colleges are located within 500 metres of the police station, and thousands of students pass through the area every day. The complainants demanded strict action against those involved and sought intensified police patrolling during school and college hours.“We want strict action against those who harass girls. Ensuring our safety is the responsibility of the police administration,” a student said.Parents and locals supported the demand, calling for a safer and more secure environment around educational institutions.Singh assured the students that patrolling would be strengthened around schools and colleges. “Strict action will be taken against anyone found harassing students,” he said.
