COIMBATORE: A private school bus driver was arrested by the Thudiyalur police here on Thursday night on charges of murdering his pregnant paramour. Tamilselvan, 29, of Sengalipalayam murdered Anitha, 32, who hailed from Ramanathapuram district, when she wanted him to marry her, according to police. Police said Anitha, who had separated from her husband, lived in the Thudiyalur area with her five-year-old daughter. Anitha became acquainted with Tamilselvan as he used to pick up and drop her daughter on the school bus. Later, they began an extramarital relationship that resulted in Anitha’s pregnancy.A dispute arose between them when Anitha asked Tamilselvan to marry her. He refused it saying his wife too was pregnant. He asked Anitha to terminate her pregnancy. The argument escalated on Wednesday. He took her to an isolated spot near Vattamalaipalayam and hit her on the head with a stone. When she fell unconscious, he drained petrol from his motorcycle, poured it on her and set her on fire.A sniffer dog tracked the scent from the victim’s remains to Tamilselvan’s residence. “He confessed to murdering the woman,” a police officer said. He was remanded in judicial custody on Friday.
