COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has intensified mosquito-control and sanitation measures across the city, with civic officials conducting targeted drives to prevent dengue.The corporation imposed a ₹20,000 fine on residents in ward 64 for dumping garbage in public spaces. Officials said action was taken after unauthorised dumping was detected and warned that surveillance would be intensified in residential areas to curb such violations.Workers are carrying out dengue preventive operations in all five corporation zones — Central, East, West, North and South. Workers are removing discarded materials like old tyres, coconut shells, paint cans, thermocol, broken plastic articles, flowerpots, plastic buckets and other unwanted items that can collect water and become breeding sites for mosquito larvae.On Thursday, intensive mosquito-control activities were conducted in Kempatti Colony and Savithri Nagar in ward 80 and in the police quarters area of P R S in Ward 83. Similar work was undertaken at the R S Puram Corporation Higher Secondary School in ward 46.Civic workers created awareness among residents on preventing water stagnation and maintaining cleanliness in and around their houses. Residents were urged to dispose of unwanted materials properly and cooperate with the corporation’s preventive measures.Corporation officials appealed to residents to segregate household waste at source and hand it over through the authorised door-to-door collection system instead of dumping it in vacant plots, roadsides or other public places.
