Coimbatore: Under drizzling skies, the city police took out a formal flag march on Tuesday, as part of security preparations for the upcoming assembly election. The march was intended to reassure the public and demonstrate the police force’s readiness to maintain law and order during the election period.The flag march was led by city police commissioner N Kannan. Deputy commissioners of police N Devanathan and G Karthikeyan also participated in the event. More than 500 police personnel took part in the march, including home guards and armed reserve police. As many as 40 four-wheel patrol vehicles and 20 two-wheel patrol vehicles were also part of the exercise.The march began at Gandhi Park and proceeded up to the Gass Forest Museum on D B Road. The large-scale deployment and visible police presence were aimed at strengthening public confidence and ensuring a peaceful atmosphere ahead of the polls.Flag marches are commonly organised before major elections to signal preparedness, deter potential disturbances, and promote a sense of safety among residents.
