Coimbatore: A bomb threat email sent by an unknown person to the Coimbatore International Airport on Sunday turned out be a hoax following a thorough search by the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) and a sniffer dog of the city police on the premises.The email was received around 10.30am, three hours before the arrival of Union defence minister Rajnath Singh at the airport on a special flight from Delhi.The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the city police increased security at the airport following an alert from the airport authorities about the email.The email warned that all the passengers should be evacuated immediately as a bomb planted at the airport would go off soon.The bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) and a sniffer dog squad of the city police launched a search and declared it a hoax bomb threat email.Meanwhile, Rajnath Singh, who arrived at Coimbatore International Airport around 1.30pm, went to Ganga Hospital, where his wife Savitri Singh was admitted for a spinal cord injury. He also visited Marudhamalai Subramaniaswamy Temple, where he offered prayers to Lord Muruga. He then returned to the hospital to meet his wife and family members.Around 8.30pm, he reached the Naval Officers Mess at Red Fields near Race Course in the city for his stay. He is likely to leave for New Delhi from Coimbatore on Monday morning.
