Chaibasa/Ranchi, April 6 (IANS) A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was critically injured on Monday after he stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during an anti-Naxal operation in the dense Saranda forest of Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, officials said.

Jamshedpur: A CRPF CoBRA jawan was injured in an IED explosion in Saranda forest in West Singhbhum district on Monday. The injured jawan was identified as Anuj Kumar of 205 Battalion.The blast occurred during a combing operation on the Chadra Dera stretch in Baliba village under Chotanagra police station limits, police said. Kumar accidentally stepped on the IED, leading to the explosion. He was airlifted to a hospital in Ranchi for treatment where his condition remained stable.A live IED was also recovered from the site which was later neutralised by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS).West Singhbhum SP, Amit Renu said that further investigation will determine whether IED was planted recently or it was part of an earlier stock planted by Maoists in the past.SP said, “Search operations have been intensified in the area.”
