Ahmedabad: The first intimations of a tragedy lay in the frozen live location of Dhairya Sheth’s phone. His mother, who had access to his location finder, noticed that the indicator was stuck near a flyover in Mumbai for a long time.Dhairya had recently moved to Mumbai to pursue management studies at a prestigious institute. “When the location did not move, she did what mothers do when something feels wrong: she called him,” a close friend of the family said.The friend added, “A policeman answered and told her about the accident which claimed the lives of three young students from Gujarat, including Dhairya.”The mortal remains of Dhairya were brought from Mumbai and his funeral was held in Ahmedabad on Monday, his family friends said.“Dhairya was a gentle, hardworking boy. The tragedy has shattered the family,” the friend said. “The family battled a serious medical issue of a key member just some months ago and is still recovering from it. And now comes this irreparable loss.”A BMW plummeted 75 feet off the Mumbai Coastal Road flyover early on Sunday, killing three college students from Ahmedabad: Shanay Gajjar, Aditya Jaskaniya, and Dhairya. A fourth person was critically injured.The vehicle, speeding at up to 120 kmph, broke through the elevated ramp’s barrier near Lotus Jetty and crashed onto an under-construction parking lot.Mumbai police are investigating the case.
