Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister V D Satheesan congratulated the students whose struggle and courage led to the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He urged the Centre not to gamble with the future and lives of students. In a statement, Satheesan welcomed the resignation of Pradhan and said it had become unavoidable. “It came late, only after it was clear that there was no way left for him to hold on. A big salute to India’s youth, whose struggle and courage rose to the occasion. I welcome Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, which came only after days of trying and failing to crush the children by throwing them onto the streets.”“This is a victory for the struggle of students across the country. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and the opposition parties stood firmly with them and supported their fight.
CJP Jantar Mantar Protest Updates
Even in the face of serious allegations and criticism, the Prime Minister and the BJP tried to shield and protect Pradhan. In the end, after the protests, he was forced to step down in disgrace,” he said.“Before the spirit of resistance, authoritarian forces were compelled to bend. Those who tried to suppress the movement, those who deliberately provoked and attempted to weaken its resolve, those who dragged the opposition leader through the streets, those who brutally attacked our MPs — those who embraced every kind of anti-democratic tactic now stand with their heads bowed.”Exams like NEET must be conducted in a flawless manner, he added.Opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan said Pradhan’s resignation is a hard-earned victory won by students who stood firm in the face of repression and a major setback for the Union govt that chose to defend a discredited system instead of delivering justice.“But this struggle cannot end with one resignation. NTA must be fundamentally restructured and the fight must continue against the National Education Policy, which centralises power and undermines the rights of states. India deserves an education system that is transparent, accountable and rooted in federalism.”“Salute to everyone who fought this battle with courage and unwavering conviction,” he said.
