Patna: Chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday spoke to Lovely Professional University (LPU) founder and chancellor Ashok Mittal, seeking steps to protect students from Bihar after violence and protests erupted on the university’s Phagwara campus in Punjab.The unrest began Sunday when LPU students allegedly vandalised campus property and blocked a stretch of the New Delhi-Amritsar highway outside the university. The protest followed allegations that an outsider had raped a student on the campus.Choudhary said in a post on X that Mittal, who is also a Rajya Sabha member, assured him of cooperation and necessary measures to ensure the safety and interests of Bihar students studying at the university.On Monday, several students were seen leaving the Phagwara campus for their homes after university authorities suspended classes for 10 days from Monday. LPU also postponed midterm examinations until further notice as tensions continued following the incident.
