Madhubani: CM Samrat Choudhary on Sunday asked senior district officials to seek formal legal advice from the revenue department and conduct a comprehensive verification of land records relating to Raj Parisar in Rajnagar before any major development work is taken up at the historic complex.The directive came during a high-level meeting at the SSB camp, where Samrat reviewed various aspects of the proposed Raj Parisar project with senior administrative officials. Emphasising the need for clarity and transparency in land-related matters, he asked officials to ascertain the extent of land registered in the name of the Trust and ensure all records were thoroughly verified.Officials were also directed to identify and address any discrepancies in accordance with established legal procedures. The meeting focused on the present status of the land, possible development opportunities and the steps required to take the project forward in a systematic and lawful manner.Officials briefed Samrat on the historical background of the complex and stressed the need to settle ownership and documentation issues before major development work begins.District magistrate Anand Sharma made a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining proposed plans for the development of Raj Parisar. The proposals included infrastructure improvements, conservation measures and strategies to enhance the utility and aesthetic appeal of the premises while preserving its cultural and religious significance.Samrat examined the proposals and sought clarifications on several points, stressing the need for future initiatives to be properly planned, sustainable and beneficial to the local community.Part of Darbhanga Raj, Rajnagar was the headquarters of Maharaja Rameshwar Singh, father of the last Maharaja of Darbhanga, late Kameshwar Singh. The Rajnagar Estate once housed huge palaces and temples, most of which were destroyed in the 1934 earthquake and now lie in ruins. There have been consistent demands for developing the historic site as a tourist attraction.After the meeting, Samrat visited the Kamakhya Temple located within the Raj Parisar complex and offered prayers. The temple holds considerable religious importance and forms an integral part of the heritage of the site.BJP state president Sanjay Sarawagi and the district’s in-charge minister, Leshi Singh, accompanied Samrat during the meeting and his visit to the complex.Samrat later flew by helicopter to nearby Pilakhwar village to attend a private function before leaving for Patna.
