Kanpur: Cashless medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh would be available to 11,484 teachers and education staff and their dependants in Kanpur Nagar under Chief Minister’s Scheme for govt teachers.Under purview of the scheme are 5,936 teachers,1,968 shiksha Mitras, 122 instructors, 20 special educators and 3, 438 cooks of the district. Cabinet minister Rakesh Sachan distributed scheme cards to teachers at a district-level event held at the Merchant Chamber Hall on Wednesday.Earlier, a live broadcast of the state-level event held in Varanasi under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was screened. Parallel events were organised at the Merchant Chamber as well as in the Bilhaur, Ghatampur, and Narwal tehsils, where the cards were distributed.Sachan said state govt is sensitive to issues and needs of teachers and chief minister Yogi Adityanath fulfilled the long-standing demand of teachers for a cashless medical scheme. More than 1.2 million teachers and education staff in the state would benefit from the scheme, and state govt will spend Rs 450 crore on its implementation.The minister said there was significant transformation in basic education with govt providing financial assistance directly to parents’ accounts through DBT. He urged parents to utilise the funds for their children’s prescribed educational needs and called upon teachers to ensure the enrolment of every out-of-school child under the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’.During the event, funds amounting to Rs.1,200 per student were released via direct benefit transfer (DBT) to 1.1 crore students of council schools with uniforms, shoes and socks, sweaters, school bags, and other essential items. A total sum exceeding Rs 1,300 crore was transferred for this purpose.Sachan said under the memorandum of understanding signed between education department and State Bank of India, teachers will be provided insurance cover ranging from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 80 lakh. Teachers will not have to pay any additional charges. In theevent of an accident, provisions are in place to offer financial security to the family, as well as assistance for needs such as the children’s education and the marriage of a daughter he added.MP Ramesh Awasthi, MLAs Neelima Katiyar and Mahesh Trivedi, zila panchayat president Swapnil Varun, Surendra Awasthi,district magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh and chief development officer Abhinav J Jain made token distribution of cashless medical cards to teachers from the basic and secondary education departments.
