Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis inspects medical facilities and reviews ongoing infrastructure and revamp projects at GMCH and IGGMCH, Nagpur.

Nagpur: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday reviewed the ongoing development works and medical facilities at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), and directed officials to ensure their timely completion.The state govt has sanctioned nearly Rs1,000 crore for the infrastructure upgrade and modernisation of the two major govt-run medical institutions.At GMCH, Fadnavis inspected the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and inaugurated a ventilator unit in the PICU. He also visited the operation theatre and surgical ICU and directed officials to ensure quality in the ongoing works.GMCH dean Dr Raj Gajbhiye briefed Fadnavis on the progress of various projects and facilities being developed at the hospital.Fadnavis also met the Gadchiroli ashramshala student undergoing treatment at GMCH after a snakebite. He interacted with her mother and directed doctors to ensure proper care and treatment.He later visited Mayo, where major development works are underway. Dean Dr Ravi Chavan welcomed him. Fadnavis inspected the medical block, surgical block and operation theatres and interacted with officials.While expressing satisfaction with the completed works, Fadnavis directed officials to expedite ongoing projects and complete them within the approved timelines.The nearly Rs1,000 crore revamp covers patient-care, critical-care, academic and residential infrastructure at both institutions. At Mayo, the new medicine complex is proposed to have around 600 beds, along with new OPD facilities, undergraduate and postgraduate hostels, accommodation for resident doctors, a nursing college and nursing hostels.At Medical, the modernisation plan includes a cardiac cath lab, nuclear scan system and robotic surgery unit, besides upgraded operation theatres, surgical and critical-care facilities, OPDs and academic infrastructure.
