Mysuru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday inspected various development projects that are under way in the city, and directed officials to complete the works within the stipulated time, with good quality.After a long time, the chief minister went on a project inspection drive in Mysuru, his hometown. Siddaramaiah similarly checked the quality of civil works in the heart of Mysuru during his previous stint as CM a decade ago.Mysuru district minister HC Mahadevappa, MLAs TS Srivatsa, K Harishgowda and Tanveer Sait, MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah and DC Lakshmikanth Reddy accompanied him.Starting inspection from CESC’s underground cabling work at Srirampura, Siddaramaiah visited four different spots to personally check the quality of development work, during which he gathered information directly from officials.Siddaramaiah saw how the work is being done, and enquired about the benefits to the public from the projects. Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company (CESC) has taken up the project worth Rs 588.2 crore to replace 11 kV overhead power lines with underground cables across a span of 871.1 km. Currently, the underground cable installation has been completed, achieving 26.1% progress. The project is scheduled to be completed in two years, CESC officials informed the CM.The CM’s second stop was near NIE College, where he inspected white-topping project work. Around 50 km of roads are being white-topped, and such roads will be viable for traffic for about 30 years. In the first phase, work is being undertaken on roads with four lanes, and in the second phase, white-topping will be done on the remaining roads. This road work will facilitate smooth traffic and solve the problem of vehicle congestion in the city, he added.Siddaramaiah also inspected hostel project work for Maharani’s College students, which would accommodate 1,400 students.Lastly, Siddaramaiah inspected the construction of the new KSRTC bus terminal in Banni Mantap at a cost of Rs 29 crore. A total of 75 bus bays are available, with separate spaces for 35 buses. There will be a separate rest area for women and spacious seating arrangements for general passengers. KSRTC authorities informed the CM that all outstation bus services will be provided from the new bus stand, and the existing KSRTC Suburban bus stand will continue to operate buses up to a distance of 80 km.Siddaramaiah told reporters that their govt has undertaken development works, including developing Mysuru’s roads and drainage systems, while the BJP has only engaged in opposing, criticising and spreading falsehoods. The BJP did not implement any plans to benefit the people during its tenure, he stated.Regarding reconstruction of Devaraja Market and Lansdowne buildings, the CM said he will take necessary action regarding this issue soon.
