Surat: Chief minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday inaugurated the 317-bed UNM Transitional Hospital in Vyara and laid the foundation stone for a new 800-bed hospital being developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model in collaboration with the state govt.Following the inauguration, Patel inspected the newly constructed hospital premises and its state-of-the-art facilities. He also received details about the hospital’s infrastructure and services from Torrent Group director Jinal Mehta.The CM dedicated the ambitious healthcare project to the tribal and rural population of the region as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, being organised across the country to mark 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public service. The project aims to strengthen access to quality healthcare for people living in remote tribal areas.The broader development will establish a healthcare hub in Vyara, featuring a 150-seat MBBS medical college and a students’ hostel. The entire project, estimated to cost Rs 910 crore, will be undertaken by the UNM Foundation.Once operational, the facilities are expected to provide advanced healthcare services to more than eight lakh people across Tapi district and the adjoining border areas of Gujarat and Maharashtra. The project will also improve access to critical care and emergency treatment, reducing the need for patients from Tapi to travel 75 kilometres to Surat for specialised medical services.The medical college will also provide tribal students with an opportunity to pursue medical education closer to home.Minister for tribal development Naresh Patel, minister of state for sports and tourism Jayram Gamit, MP Prabhu Vasava and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
