New Delhi: Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday distributed bicycles to more than 500 meritorious girl students at an event in RK Puram. She also announced that all girls taking admission to Class IX in govt schools would soon receive bicycles under a new initiative aimed at promoting girls’ education.“The education of daughters is not just important for families, but the foundation of a brighter future for the nation. The bicycle is not merely a means of transport but a tool that will boost confidence, independence and dreams of young students. Such efforts are crucial for promoting girls’ education and encouraging them to move ahead in life,” CM Gupta said.The bicycles were distributed to girls who passed Classes X and XII to help them continue their education with ease, safety and self-reliance. CM said Delhi govt’s scheme would benefit around 1.3 lakh girls who enrol in Class IX in govt schools every year. CM said the process of distribution under the scheme would begin after the summer vacation.“It is an important step towards women’s empowerment. Delhi govt is committed to ensuring that no girl has to compromise on her studies or aspirations because of lack of resources,” CM said.
