Srinagar, Oct 27: Cluster University of Srinagar has approved a 24-credit additional programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science for eligible undergraduate students, along with the establishment of a High-Performance Computing Centre (HPCC)/AI-Cell at its main campus.
The decisions were taken at the university’s third Syndicate meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Mobin on Tuesday.
The proposed computing centre, estimated to cost around ₹80 lakh in its first phase, will provide GPU-based facilities to support research, innovation, teaching and administrative services, including work in AI, data science and cyber security.
The Syndicate also approved the expansion of the paperless examination system, which was initially piloted in the B.Ed. programme. The university plans to extend it to postgraduate, B.Ed. and B.Tech. programmes from the next academic session.
The meeting approved the Convocation Statutes, paving the way for the university’s maiden convocation. It also cleared statutes for the B.Tech. programme, the draft constitution of the Abdul Ahad Azad Chair and the university tarana.
A mercy chance was also approved for students from the 2017–2019 batches of undergraduate, integrated, postgraduate and professional programmes to help them complete their degrees.

The Vice Chancellor informed the members that undergraduate enrolment had increased by around 7.6 per cent over 2025, while postgraduate enrolment had risen by approximately 28 per cent.
He also highlighted the introduction of a one-year postgraduate programme for eligible graduates of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme under NEP 2020, allowing lateral entry into the third semester of existing two-year postgraduate programmes.
The university’s mega job fair held in July 2026 attracted more than 5,000 registrations and resulted in around 900 selections, he said. Memoranda of Understanding signed during the year were also highlighted as part of efforts to strengthen academic collaboration and student opportunities.
The recommendations of the university’s fourth Finance Committee meeting were subsequently placed before the Syndicate and approved.
The meeting was attended by Syndicate members and representatives of the Higher Education Department, constituent colleges and other institutions, both online and in person.
