Kolkata: Passengers had a narrow escape after a large Krishnachura tree collapsed on a private bus on route 223 in Lake Town on Sunday. The incident, which occurred around 9 am near Milan Sangha Club, also damaged three parked cars.The alertness of the bus driver prevented a major tragedy. He swerved just in time, reducing the impact of the tree on the front of the vehicle. All commuters were evacuated. No injury was reported.
Cops and firemen took several hours to clear the road, during which traffic was severely affected. Vehicles were diverted, leading to congestion in adjoining areas. Cops are assessing the cause of the tree’s collapse. tnn
