Mumbai: Over two weeks after govt announced that it will celebrate ‘classical Marathi language day’ on Oct 3 and ‘classical Marathi language week’ from Oct 3-9 every year to promote awareness, preservation and scholarly engagement with Marathi’s rich linguistic and literary heritage, officials said many events and programmes have been lined up for the week. “Various books, including interviews on classical Marathi, will be released in Mumbai. A symposium on ‘Online Marathi: State and Direction’ will be held in the city too. It will include expert entrepreneurs and scholars working in this field. A seminar on ‘Future plans of Maharashtra govt regarding classical Marathi language’ will also be held in Mumbai. A conference of experts in 11 Indian classical languages has been organised in Amravati,” said an official.The official said a two-day conference will also be organised in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for 750 officers, and 60 brihanmaharashtra mandals outside Maharashtra will conduct programmes. “Coordinators will organise events in 17 countries.”In Oct 2024, the Union cabinet gave its approval to grant classical language status to Marathi.
