Chennai: Class XII state board exams are set to commence on Monday, with 8.2 lakh candidates expected to take the test at 3,412 centres across the state till March 26. While there are no board exams for class XI this year, the class XI (arrear) exams will be held between Mar 3 and 27 across the state. In Chennai, 67,516 candidates — including 64,359 school students and 3,157 private candidates — will appear for the class XII public exams and class XI (arrear) exams, said chief education officer M Kabir said on Sunday

Of the 64,359 students, 30,663 are boys and 33,696 are girls from 578 govt, govt-aided and private higher secondary schools. The exams will be held from 10am to 1.15pm at 250 centres, including a special centre at the Central Prison in Puzhal. State-wide, 281 prison candidates will take the class XII exam.Last week, the directorate of govt exams had announced that 49,000 teachers will be engaged in exam duty and 4,900 flying squad personnel will be deployed to prevent malpractices across the state. In the city, Kabir said five centres each have been set up for question banks and storing answer scripts, and 65 routes have been readied for transporting question papers. A total of 6,150 personnel have been deployed for examination duty in the city.
