Chennai: A 15-year-old schoolboy drowned after he and his friend were swept into the sea by a giant wave while swimming off the Ennore coast on Saturday evening. His friend was rescued and is undergoing intensive treatment at a hospital.The deceased was identified as Gautham (15), son of Thangaraj and a resident of First Street at Periya Kasi Koil Kuppam in Ernavur. He was studying in Class XI at a school in the locality.Police said Gautham had gone swimming in the sea near Ennore Periyakuppam along with his friend Jothish (15) when a giant wave swept them into deeper waters. Fishermen who noticed the two boys struggling in the sea rushed to their rescue and brought them ashore. They were taken to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital.Doctors who examined Gautham declared him dead. His body was sent for post-mortem examination, while Jothish was admitted to the hospital and is undergoing intensive treatment.Ennore police have registered a case and are investigating.
