Ahmedabad: A 15-year-old Class 10 student succumbed to his injuries at SVP Hospital, three weeks after the scooter he was riding pillion on collided with an autorickshaw while driving on the wrong side of the road near Arogya Bhavan at Geeta Mandir.The victim, Zaid Madiwala, a student at Anjuman Islam High School, was travelling with rider Khalid Hussain Sheikh on Aug 3 when the crash occurred. According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, Umar Madiwala, the scooter was heading toward Astodia against the flow of traffic when it struck an oncoming autorickshaw. All three individuals involved — Zaid, Khalid, and autorickshaw driver Moin Sheikh — were rushed to SVP Hospital.Zaid underwent major surgeries on his neck and leg before being discharged on Aug 14. However, his condition deteriorated sharply at home on Aug 24, and he was declared dead shortly after being readmitted to the hospital. Following Zaid’s account before his death that the scooter was being driven on the wrong side, the K-Division Traffic Police registered a case of rash and negligent driving against Khalid.
