CJP alleges Rajasthan Police took leader on 100-km ride before dropping him home

NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has accused Rajasthan Police of forcibly detaining its national organisational co-in-charge Deepak Baliyan from his residence in Alwar district and manhandling him despite his fractured leg, while police maintained that he had not been detained. The controversy comes ahead of the CJP’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on October 10, where the party is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged manipulation of electoral rolls and the deletion of lakhs of voters’ names during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.Baliyan, a resident of Mankheda village in Alwar district, had earlier accused local police of placing him under house arrest and threatening his family ahead of the protest. The party initially alleged that Rajasthan Police had forcibly picked him up from his residence in Kathumar on Thursday, October 8.According to Baliyan’s family, police personnel first arrived at his residence and said the local station house officer had summoned him. Baliyan livestreamed the police action on social media, following which the personnel left, the family claimed. The police allegedly returned later and asked him to delete the video. When he refused, they took him into custody, the family alleged.Party co-convener Ashutosh Ranka said Baliyan was taken away and released late that night. He alleged that police dragged Baliyan, who was recovering from a leg fracture, causing further injuries to his leg. Ranka also claimed that Baliyan was taken on a journey of around 100 km before being dropped back at his house.

In a post on X, Ranka said, “Some boundaries shouldn’t be crossed, and it’s good that Rajasthan Police realised that eventually.”In an earlier post, Ranka had accused Rajasthan Police of behaving like “goons” over the alleged treatment of Baliyan and his brother. He also called on party supporters to reach the Kathumar police station following the allegations. The CJP has maintained that the alleged police action was linked to its planned protest against Kumar over the revision of electoral rolls. Police, however, have denied detaining Baliyan.
