Rajkot: A 22-year-old woman, working as a nurse, was allegedly raped by a man who had employed her in the civil hospital of Upleta town of Rajkot district.After the woman filed a complaint, the accused Uday Panera was arrested and booked under sections of BNS, Atrocities Act and IT Act. According to the police complaint, on Feb 26 night, he contacted the woman on WhatsApp and asked her to meet him at a location in Upleta. He then allegedly took her on his motorcycle to his farm, where he sexually assaulted her. During this time, he allegedly created a fake ID on the Snapchat without her knowledge and threatened to terminate her employment if she reported the incident. According to police sources, the woman was looking for a job and had discussed this with a friend, who then spoke to Panera. He arranged for her employment on contractual bases. Deputy superintendent of police S S Patel of the Rajkot Rural SC/ST Cell told TOI that the accused was arrested immediately after the complaint was registered at Upleta police station and was subsequently sent to judicial custody.“We have seized his mobile phone, the bike used in the crime, and clothing of both the victim and accused. Medical examinations of both individuals have also been conducted,” said Patel.
