Rewari/Rohtak: Sampla municipal committee recorded the highest voter turnout in Haryana’s civic polls on Sunday, with 79.2% polling till 6 pm. Dharuhera municipal committee recorded 72.4% turnout, while Rewari municipal council registered 64.8%.Polling remained largely peaceful, though complaints of bogus voting, EVM glitches and alleged cash distribution surfaced at some places.In Rewari, police detained a youth for allegedly attempting to cast a fake vote at a government senior secondary school polling booth after objections by candidates and their supporters.In Dharuhera, Congress chairperson candidate Kumari Raj alleged BJP workers were distributing Rs 1,000 each to influence voters and claimed the exercise was being carried out “in collusion with the administration”.At Sampla’s Shanti School polling booth, voting was disrupted for nearly 30 minutes after complaints of suspicious voting practices. The additional deputy commissioner rushed to the spot and ordered an inquiry, following which three persons were handed over to police.Independent candidate Ankit Ohlan demanded cancellation of polling at the booth and fresh voting.Security arrangements remained tight across polling stations, with voters asked to deposit mobile phones outside booths to maintain secrecy of voting.
