Surat: As creek floodwaters receded from parts of the city early Monday after inundating several areas for nearly three days, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) completed an extensive sanitation drive. It also launched large-scale health surveys in the affected localities.Sanitation teams were deployed in Mithi Khadi, Parvat and Kamru Nagar, with 300 workers, supported by loaders and trucks, clearing nearly 7 lakh kilograms of solid waste from flood-hit areas since July 31. Overall, around 8,000 sanitation workers participated in the cleanup operations across the city.Medical teams simultaneously carried out health checks in flood-affected neighbourhoods. A total of 747 people were examined, with 51 receiving treatment on the spot. In addition, 760 health workers and 19 rapid response teams conducted door-to-door surveys covering nearly 1 lakh households and gathering information on around 4 lakh residents. During the survey, 208 people with fever and three with diarrhoea were identified and provided treatment.“The sanitation work has been completed in all the flood-affected areas. Health surveys were also conducted to ensure timely treatment for patients,” an SMC health official said.SMC also plans to deploy 30 mechanised road sweepers to clear dust and restore normalcy on city roads.With no further rainfall, civic authorities were able to complete the cleanup swiftly.
