Prayagraj: The city may soon get its longest flyover, with the state govt approving a proposal to construct a 1.5-km elevated corridor along Kachahari Road to provide a permanent solution to frequent traffic snarls in the area. The proposed flyover, estimated to cost Rs 25 crore, will be built in front of the district court and, if constructed, will surpass the city’s existing longest flyover—a 1.32-km structure alongside the Allahabad high court, constructed ahead of the 2019 Kumbh.The Setu Nigam has prepared a plan to construct the new flyover from Laxmi Talkies crossing to Aeroplane crossing, covering one of the city’s busiest stretches. The corridor has several important govt offices and institutions, including the district court, PWD, Vikas Bhawan, district magistrate’s office and the head post office. The heavy movement of officials, employees, litigants and visitors in the area often leads to severe traffic congestion, making traffic management a persistent challenge.The Setu Nigam conducted a survey to assess the feasibility of the project and prepared a detailed project report (DPR) in June. The proposal was subsequently approved by chief minister Yogi Adityanath during a PWD review meeting. Officials said the DPR has been submitted to the state govt, and the Rs 25 crore budget is expected to receive approval soon.Setu Nigam project manager Rohit Mishra said the corporation would move ahead with the design work once the budget is sanctioned. Technical experts from the corporation’s Lucknow headquarters will prepare the detailed design of the flyover, following which it will be submitted for approval.Construction will begin after the design receives the necessary clearance, officials said. The proposed 1.5-km flyover is expected to ease congestion along Kachahari Road and ensure smoother movement of vehicles around the district court and other key govt offices.At 1.5 km, the proposed structure would be around 180 metres longer than the existing 1.32-km flyover alongside the Allahabad High Court. If completed as planned, it would become the longest flyover in Prayagraj, nearly eight years after the High Court flyover was built as part of the preparations for the 2019 Kumbh.
