Chennai: Two motorcyclists, including a 25-year-old woman riding with her boyfriend, were killed in separate road accidents in different parts of Chennai on Friday night. Police arrested the truck drivers involved in the accidents and registered separate cases.In the first incident, Moorthy, 31, a resident of Alamathi-Gnayiru near Chennai, died after falling off his motorcycle on the Puzhal High Road, near the Puzhal police station. Moorthy, who worked for an import-export firm in Madhavaram, was returning home after work when the rider of a motorcycle ahead of him suddenly applied brakes. Police said Moorthy attempted to avoid a collision by swerving to the left but lost control of his vehicle and fell on the road.A tipper truck moving behind him ran over him, killing him on the spot. Following information from passers-by, the Madhavaram Traffic Investigation Wing police recovered the body and sent it for postmortem. Police registered a case and arrested the truck driver, Manimaran, 60, of Ponneri.In the second incident, Swetha, 25, of Athipattu, died after a concrete mixer truck collided with the motorcycle on which she was travelling with her boyfriend Sachin, 28, near the Ambattur Telephone Exchange. They were returning home when the accident occurred. Swetha sustained fatal injuries and died, while Sachin suffered injuries and was admitted to a hospital for treatment. The Ambattur Traffic Investigation Wing police registered a case and arrested the truck driver.
