Estimated to cost over Rs 10,428 crore, the corridor will have 28 stations

Gurgaon: Five interchange stations have been planned along the proposed 36km Sector 56-Panchgaon metro corridor to make it easier for commuters to switch between public transport networks serving Gurgaon’s residential sectors, industrial belt and the wider NCR.The interchanges are proposed at Sector 56, Vatika Chowk, Kherki Daula near the Dwarka Expressway cloverleaf, IMT Manesar and Pachgaon. They will link the corridor to existing Rapid Metro services and to the proposed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) networks. The corridor will also have road connectivity with NH-8, SPR, Dwarka Expressway and KMP.Estimated to cost over Rs 10,428 crore, the corridor will have 28 stations. Its detailed project report (DPR) is under finalisation. It is planned as a medium-capacity metro rail system with a design speed of 90kmph and communication-based train control (CBTC) signalling. The corridor will start at Sector 56, run along Golf Course Extension Road and Southern Peripheral Road (SPR), and proceed towards IMT Manesar via Sector 86 Road. It will then run parallel to the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway and HORC before terminating at Pachgaon, near the proposed Pachgaon RRTS station. The interchanges are significant because the route passes through some of the city’s fastest-growing residential and commercial areas before reaching Manesar’s industrial belt and the developing Panchgaon region. While the metro will serve local journeys along the corridor, the interchange stations are meant to bridge the gap between local travel within Gurgaon and onward journeys across the wider regional network. The starting point will connect with the existing Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station, with a foot overbridge (FOB) planned for passenger movement between the two. Commuters will be able to transfer between the proposed line and the Rapid Metro network, improving access for residents and for people working in the surrounding areas. Sector 56 is also planned to connect with the proposed 64km Gurgaon-Faridabad-Noida-Greater Noida corridor, of which around 52km is planned in Haryana. That corridor will begin at IFFCO Chowk and proceed towards Gwalpahari via Sector 29, Millennium City Centre and sectors 52, 57 and 61 along Golf Course Extension Road. If the two corridors are integrated as planned, passengers could gain additional options for travelling between major NCR cities.A double-height elevated station is proposed to facilitate interchange with the upcoming railway station-Bhondsi metro corridor, which is also at the DPR stage. The interchange would let passengers move between the two corridors without making the entire journey by road. It would also strengthen public transport connectivity between Gurgaon railway station and the residential and commercial developments along SPR and adjoining areas.Near the Dwarka Expressway cloverleaf, Kherki Daula is planned as another key transfer point, with an interchange with the proposed Delhi-Alwar RRTS corridor. The RRTS station is planned by National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), so commuters could switch between the metro and regional rapid rail at the same location.Last year, Public Investment Board (PIB) approved the 93km Delhi–Gurgaon–Bawal stretch at a cost of Rs 32,000 crore. In July, the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs initiated the process to extend the proposed Delhi–Gurgaon–Bawal RRTS corridor to Behror in Rajasthan. The extension will add about 36km beyond Bawal — roughly 11km in Haryana and 25km in Rajasthan — taking the corridor’s total length to nearly 129km. The interchange would give passengers more options for travelling towards Delhi and other regional destinations. It would also improve metro access for people arriving by bus or regional rail, and connect the metro with a major road corridor including the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway and Dwarka Expressway. The proposed metro station will also connect with the Manesar station being built as part of HORC. Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC) is developing the orbital rail corridor between Palwal and Sonipat, largely along KMP Expressway. Integration with its Manesar station is planned to allow transfers between the metro and the regional rail network. The link could be particularly useful for workers travelling to Manesar’s industrial areas from Gurgaon and neighbouring locations, giving them an alternative to private vehicles or road-based public transport. The terminal station will lie in the planned industrial area of Pachgaon, near the proposed RRTS station. It is planned to interchange with the Delhi-Alwar RRTS corridor, creating a potential transfer point between local metro services and regional rapid rail. This could improve connectivity for people travelling between Gurgaon, Manesar and other destinations along the regional corridor.Meanwhile, Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) is exploring the possibility of integrating the proposed Global City metro station and the ISBT. However, the availability of the required land needs to be resolved before the proposal can be taken forward.“The idea is to improve connectivity and make travel more convenient for commuters. We are also exploring the possibility of integration with the proposed Global City station and ISBT, subject to land availability,” an HMRTC official said.
