Chennai: Several candidates contesting in various assembly constituencies in the city filed their nominations on Saturday, with many of them hitting the ground, reaching out to voters door-to-door.Karthik Mohan, DMK candidate for Villivakkam constituency, and his rival belonging to AIADMK, S R Vijayakumar, and Mylapore DMK candidate Dha Velu, were among those to file their nominations on Saturday.After filing nominations, Vijayakumar visited the Arulmigu Soumya Damodara Prasad temple in Villivakkam that evening and campaigned in the surrounding neighbourhoods. He then visited Ayanavaram, where AIADMK’s deputy propaganda secretary and actress Vindhya campaigned for him.AIADMK’s youth wing coordinator M Vinoth Kunar said they have covered 40,000 voters out of the 1.59 lakh voters in Villivakkam,” adding that they have visited gated communities and apartments too. Next week, they will focus on low-income neighbourhoods.Karthik Mohan also campaigned in Ayanavaram flanked by a big group of cadres. “My goal is to transform Villivakkam into a model constituency. I will take the achievements of the DMK govt to every household and secure a resounding victory,” he said.In South Chennai, DMK’s Sholinganallur candidate Aravind Ramesh visited the fishermen villages in Uthandi, Injambakkam and Neelankarai. “The fishermen presented a memorandum seeking subsidies for fishing nets. They also want a net-stitching area near the beach, but it comes under CRZ-I. I have assured them that it will be taken up,” he said.RK Nagar MLA J J Ebenezer also visited slum pockets in Korukkupet for his campaign, while TVK’s Marie Wilson, who is RK Nagar’s candidate, also extended his outreach. “The campaigns will get heated up in the coming weeks when leaders and star campaigners hit the city. For now, we are focusing on covering as much houses as possible,” said Ebenezer.
