Ranchi: The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (Citu) on Sunday announced a series of nationwide agitations against the four labour codes, calling them anti-worker, after its All India working committee meeting in Ranchi.Citu general secretary Elamaram Kareem said the campaign would begin with a massive worker-peasant national convention in Delhi on July 29, followed by a nationwide ‘jail bharo’ movement on Aug 10. Joint state-level and district-level conventions of workers and farmers will be held across the country through Aug, Sept and Oct.“On Oct 6, the scheme workers would gather in Delhi for a ‘Delhi Chalo’ rally. One-day token strike would be organised in Nov across the manufacturing and allied industrial plants in northern, central and pan-India sectors. Citu would approach the other central trade unions for a joint call, but would be fully prepared to stage the protest independently,” he further said.Kareem issued the statement after the meeting, outlining the protest calendar and urging workers and peasants to mobilise nationwide.At the meeting, Citu adopted a resolution expressing solidarity with social activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike in Delhi. The fast is being held to demand the resignation of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test paper leak.
