Asit Biswas and Pramila Ray Biswas at CM Suvendu Adhikari’s ‘Janatar Darbar’ on Saturday

Kolkata: The investigation into the murder of schoolteacher Barun Biswas, a key witness in the Sutiya gangrape case in North 24 Parganas, has resumed after a gap of 14 years.A few days ago, the Biswas family met chief minister Suvendu Adhikari, seeking a fresh probe. Biswas’s elder brother and sister were assured of justice by the CM.On Thursday, a two-member CID team visited Biswas’s home in Sutia and spoke with family members. The Biswas family said they were pleased with the CID’s renewed activity and were hopeful that, after 14 years, justice may finally be delivered. The family has alleged that former state minister and then-Habra MLA Jyotipriya Mallick had a role in Biswas’s killing. They said this was conveyed to Adhikari and has now also been reported to the CID.Barun’s brother Asit Biswas said, “After 14 years, we appealed to the new govt for an investigation. The govt acted very quickly. Within just a few days, it directed the CID to begin the probe. We are grateful to the govt for this. We never saw such action under the previous administration. Our only demand is that the real culprits be punished through a fair and impartial investigation. We firmly believe in the CM’s assurance of justice. This hope has been rekindled by the visit of the CID officials for the reopening of the file on my brother’s murder.”
