Chittorgarh police Thursday arrested two men for allegedly uploading videos of a buffalo calf sacrifice and the hunting of a protected wild rabbit on social media

Bhilwara: Chittorgarh police Thursday arrested two men for allegedly uploading videos of a buffalo calf sacrifice and the hunting of a protected wild rabbit on social media. The accused were arrested in a joint operation by the district special team (DST) and Chanderiya police, who also recovered the sword allegedly used in the buffalo calf killing.Dharmendra Singh said the action followed a complaint received during social media monitoring from Surabhi Gau Seva Sansthan, Pali (Rural). The complaint flagged videos uploaded on Instagram by an account allegedly operated by Shankarlal Bagariya.Police said one video showed a buffalo calf being killed with a sharp weapon, while another showed a wild rabbit being trapped in a net, tortured and killed. Both videos were allegedly circulated on Instagram.During the investigation, Chanderiya SHO Madhu Kanwar found prima facie evidence of cognisable offences. A case was registered against Shobha Lal Bagariya, a resident of Amoliya village, under the Rajasthan Animal and Bird Sacrifice (Prohibition) Act, 1975, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the Arms Act and Section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).Another case was registered against Shankar Bagariya, also a resident of Amoliya village, under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and other relevant provisions.
