Kanpur: Kanpur Nagar police organised child-safety awareness programmes at 67 locations across all four commissionerate zones on Sept 29, reaching 7,884 children under Mission Shakti Phase-5.0.The ‘Suraksha Ki Pathshala’ programmes, conducted in schools under the directions from Allahabad High Court, covered the provisions of the Pocso Act, 2012, ‘Good touch-Bad touch’, sexual offences and cybercrime. Altogether, 254 police officers and personnel participated in the event.The campaign was conducted under the leadership of police commissioner Raghubir Lal, deputy commissioner of Police Headquarters Dinesh Tripathi and additional deputy commissioner and Mission Shakti nodal in-charge Sneha Tiwari.In East Zone, 55 police personnel addressed 1,415 children at 17 locations. In West Zone, 48 personnel reached 1,686 children at 11 locations; in Central Zone, 69 personnel addressed 2,530 children at 20 locations, while 82 personnel reached 2,253 children at 19 locations in South Zone.Police advised children to immediately inform their parents, guardians, teachers or police if anyone made them uncomfortable, threatened, intimidated or blackmailed them, or if they encountered any suspicious situation.Children and members of the public were informed about helplines 1098, 1090, 1076, 112, 181, 101, 108 and cyberfraud helpline 1930. They were also briefed about services available through the UPCOP app and Kanpur Nagar Police’s WhatsApp, X, Facebook and Instagram platforms. They were also informed about women’s safety, empowerment and govt welfare schemes.Police advised children not to share personal information, photographs, passwords or other sensitive details with strangers online and to alert family members and police on 1930 in case of online fraud, blackmail or cybercrime.Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal stated, “The safety of children is not only the responsibility of the police, but our collective responsibility. Stay aware, stay safe, and do not remain silent in any uncomfortable situation.”
