Bhopal: Chikungunya’s positivity rate remains about 3 times higher than dengue during July, despite having much lower testing volumes in Bhopal, as per district malaria office (DMO) figures.
From July 12 to July 19, health officials carried out 141 dengue tests and confirmed six new cases, while only 39 chikungunya tests were conducted in the same period, yielding one fresh diagnosis.
Case count for dengue stood at 51 and 52 for chikungunya. Despite lower testing, chikungunya continues to hold a higher positivity rate, though dengue saw a greater rise in confirmed cases over the week.
Recent weekly health monitoring indicates a small but steady increase in mosquito-transmitted illnesses, specifically dengue and chikungunya, during the period of July 12 to July 19.
The figures, while not alarming, indicate ongoing transmission and necessitate continued attention as the monsoon season creates favourable conditions for mosquito breeding, as per experts.
The yearly tallies reached 6 for malaria, 51 for dengue, and 52 for chikungunya. It is significant that chikungunya cases exceeded dengue, despite fewer tests conducted throughout the month, suggesting potential undetected cases or concentrated infection areas.
Health authorities maintain surveillance of these patterns, observing that while malaria remains under control, the continued presence of dengue and chikungunya requires preventive measures. Although no outbreak warnings have been declared, vector control is likely to be strengthened as the city progresses through the monsoon period.
