Chikkamagaluru: The number of ZP constituencies has increased from 34 to 36, while TP constituencies have been reduced from 108 to 100 in Chikkamagaluru district in the draft notification of the reservation list announced by state govt. The long-pending elections are likely to be held by this year-end or early next year.Of the 36 ZP seats, 18 are reserved for women. Out of nine seats earmarked for scheduled castes, five are for women. Of the two ST seats, one is for women. Among six seats for Backward Class-A, three are for women. The lone BCA-B seat is reserved for women. In the remaining general category, eight seats are reserved for women.For taluk panchayats, 54 of the total 100 seats are reserved for women. Of the 25 SC seats, 14 are for women. All nine ST seats are reserved for women. Of 11 BCM-A seats, eight are for women. The single BCM-B seat is reserved for women. Of 54 general seats, 22 are for women.Chikkamagaluru TP continues to have 19 seats as before. Kadur has been reduced from 24 to 20, Tarikere from 19 to 11, Mudigere from 12 to nine, Sringeri from 11 to seven, Narasimharajapura from 11 to seven, and Koppa from 12 to nine. The two new taluk panchayats – Kalasa and Ajjampura – have been allotted seven and nine seats respectively.Officials said the reservation was fixed as per the 2011 census and delimitation. The draft notification has been published and objections invited before the final notification. Panchayat elections are expected by year-end.
