Amravati: A student of a tribal hostel of Maharshi Public School in Karanjkheda, Chikhaldara tehsil, died on Monday while seven others have been hospitalised after developing symptoms of severe vomiting and diarrhoea. Deceased student has been identified as Rajesh Bethekar.According to information received, Rajesh and his brother Ashish developed severe symptoms while being taken to their village. Relatives stopped the vehicle midway and tried to arrange medical aid. Rajesh was rushed to the Hathru sub-centre at around 12:30am on Monday in critical condition. He was later referred for advanced treatment but died before proper treatment could be administered.Another student, Ramprasad Rajkumar, also showed similar symptoms, sources said.Ashish alleged that the school administration failed to shift the ailing students to hospital in time despite worsening health conditions. “The students were kept at the hostel. Rajesh’s life could have been saved had he received timely medical treatment,” said Ashish, the deceased student’s brother.Dr Sandeep Maliye of Kusumanjali Hospital said students from Maharshi Public School were admitted in wee hours of Monday. “Two students were treated, discharged. Five others were admitted. They are now stable and recovering,” Dr Maliye said.The incident has triggered anger among parents and local citizens, who have demanded strict action. They also urged school management to adopt a prompter, more sensitive response mechanism for health emergencies involving residential students.As per HC directions, divisional commissioner, collector are to conduct regular inspections of tribal residential hostels. Citizens are seeking a inquiry into the incident.
