Chennai: City police conducted a special drive across the city on Friday, screening 410 individuals with criminal backgrounds and arresting 15 persons, including four history-sheeters, as part of intensified measures to curb crime and narcotics-related offences.Upon orders from police commissioner Dr A Amalraj, special police teams led by inspectors from various police stations conducted surveillance and raids across the Chennai metropolitan area.Police said the drive aimed to strengthen public safety, maintain law and order, and take action against individuals involved in extortion, violent crimes, and other unlawful activities affecting residents and traders.Among those arrested were Vijay alias Jackie, 22, and Kishore alias Kishore Kumar, 25, by Kodungaiyur police. Police also arrested history-sheeters Sanjay alias Dolu, 24, linked to MKB Nagar police station, and Ramesh alias Rangaraj, 25, attached to New Washermanpet police station.In a parallel anti-narcotics operation conducted on the same day, police inspected 86 locations across the city. Authorities placed 36 narcotics offenders under surveillance and registered two cases related to drug trafficking.Police arrested four persons in the narcotics drive and seized 1.2kg of ganja and 30 pain-relief tablets.Commissioner Amalraj said such special drives would continue across Chennai, and strict legal action would be taken against rowdies, history-sheeters, and persons involved in illegal activities.
