Chennai: A man was electrocuted while attempting to close a window, when a portion of the window frame came in contact with a nearby transformer, at Maraimalai Nagar on Thursday night. The deceased, R Rajkumar, 26, from Arasur in Villupuram district, was staying on the first floor of a house on Silappathikaram Street in Maraimalai Nagar. He was employed at a private factory in the SIPCOT industrial area.According to reports, the incident occurred around 10.50pm when Rajkumar went to close a window in the kitchen. A damaged rod, jutting out from the window frame, had come in contact with a nearby transformer. Rajkumar suffered an electric shock, sustained severe burns and died on the spot. On hearing a loud thud, neighbours rushed to the spot and informed the fire service, along with local police, who recovered the body. It was later sent to the Chengalpet govt hospital for postmortem examination. Family members claimed they previously approached TANGEDCO twice, requesting the relocation of the transformer but no action was taken.
