CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) council moved a resolution against Commissioner G S Sameeran for not releasing ward councillor funds for the past three months.Councillors from DMK, BJP, CPI and CPI(M) criticised the commissioner and demanded an explanation for the delay in releasing the funds. They questioned how the government could cite a shortage of funds when money was available to build the Chief Minister’s Sea View office and purchase cars for MLAs.The councillors said ward funds, to which they are entitled, had not been released, resulting in almost no civic works being carried out in several wards over the past four months. However, Commissioner G S Sameeran watched the proceedings with a smile and did not respond to the councillors’ demands.Mayor R Priya thanked all the councilors for supporting the resolution, she said, 120 resolutions were passed during DMK tenure every month, but now hardly 10-20 resolutions are being passed.Ward 141 councilor, Raja Anbazhagan, son of Ex-MLA J Anbazhagan said that all councillors should resign en masse.
