Chandigarh: Two incidents of mobile phone snatching were reported from Sector 37 and Manimajra within 24 hours, with a woman among the victims. Police have registered separate cases and launched investigations. No arrests had been made till the filing of the report.In the first incident, Sandeep Kumar, who works at a chemist shop in Sector 37, told police he was standing in the market and talking on his mobile phone when two unidentified men on a motorcycle approached from behind. The pillion rider allegedly snatched the phone from his hand, and the duo fled before anyone could stop them.Sandeep raised an alarm, following which passersby gathered at the spot. Sector 39 police reached the scene, recorded his statement and registered a case.In the second incident, a resident of Maulijagran informed police that his sister had gone to Civil Hospital, Manimajra, for a medical check-up. As she reached near the hospital gate, an unidentified man allegedly snatched her mobile phone and fled.The woman raised an alarm and passersby attempted to chase the accused, but he managed to escape. She immediately informed police through the emergency helpline 112. A team from Manimajra police station reached the spot, recorded her statement and initiated an investigation.Police said CCTV footage from the areas is being examined to identify the accused and trace their escape routes. Other technical evidence is also being collected as part of the investigation.
