Lucknow: Breast conservation is possible in nearly 60–70% of breast cancer patients if the disease is detected early and treated with modern techniques such as oncoplastic surgery and targeted therapy, experts said at a seminar at KGMU’s surgical oncology department on Saturday. Prof Naseem Akhtar said oncoplastic surgery combines tumour removal with breast reshaping in a single operation, addressing both treatment and patients’ emotional well‑being. HOD Prof Vijay Kumar informed that earlier treatment often required complete breast removal, but they now aim to preserve breast appearance whenever medically feasible.
